Betting Today on Tomorrow's Revolutionary Technologies

Experts, VCs Meet in Arlington to Identify 2008's Hottest Tech Sectors

March 21, 2008 | Arlington, TX -– Topping 2008’s shortlist of hot markets in seed and early stage technology investing are cleantech, nanotech, photonics, displays and biopharma. But some savvy tech investors are cutting through the dazzle to identify 2008’s absolute "best bets.”

Over 100 leading venture investors and Fortune 500 licensing scouts will meet next week in Arlington as the world’s best new technologies present at the March 26-27 2008 WBTshowcase.

An expert panel predicting 2008’s hottest tech markets and sectors will be among the event’s highlights.

The panel, 2008 Hot Investment Markets and Sizzling Sectors, will be led by Bill Reichert of Silicon Valley’s Garage Technology Ventures and features Lloyd Tran, Executive Director of the International Association of Nanotechnology; Christine Copple of Starise Ventures; and Andrew Nat of Texas A&M’s Life Science Center in Houston.

“Technology has changed dramatically over the past few years,” said Mr. Reichert. “New entrepreneurial startups and venture investments are being generated in areas that venture capital did not traditionally go ten years ago.”

Mr. Reichert named materials science, energy and transportation technology and biomedical devices as sectors his expert panelists will evaluate during the Wednesday afternoon session.

"Many of the technologies that will revolutionize our future are actually here today,” said Paul Huleatt, WBTshowcase CEO. “Our panel experts make it their business to find them first."

According to Mr. Huleatt, today’s tech-smart investors are looking beyond hyped sectors to find technologies that fit well into the market value chain, have proven technical feasibility, solid IP foundation, broad product applications and a feasible execution plan.
