Harvard Goes All In for Online Courses

Quietly, Harvard has built what amounts to an in-house production company to create massive open online courses, or MOOCs, high-end classes that some prestigious universities are offering for free to anyone in the world, generally without formal academic credit. Contrary to the popular image of online classes consisting largely of video from a camera planted at the back of the lecture hall, Harvard is increasingly using mini-documentaries, animation, and interactive software tools to offer a far richer product.

Some States Sidestepping JOBS Act’s Burdensome Crowdfunding Rules

The May 1st Wall Street Journal article, entitled “Frustration Rises Over Crowdfunding Rules,” describes efforts in the U.S. Congress to amend the JOBS Act even before the Federal CF Exemption takes effect. However, many states have found a way to go ahead with crowdfunding without the delay and burdens involved with the Federal CF Exemption. They have done so by adopting their own intrastate crowdfunding exemptions, often citing job creation as the goal.
